Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service govern your use of Caprine Compass, including the website, progressive web app, mobile-distributed versions, family invitations, notifications, offline features, and related services. By creating an account or continuing to use the service after updated terms are published, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
Operator. Caprine Compass is the name of the software service. The service is owned and operated by Vaught Family Farm, LLC, an Indiana limited liability company. References to “we,” “us,” “our,” or the “operator” mean Vaught Family Farm, LLC.
Account eligibility and youth access
Direct account creation is limited to users age 18 or older. Users age 13 through 17 may create an account only through an adult-managed Caprine Compass family invitation and only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Children under 13 may not create or operate their own Caprine Compass account.
An adult Owner or Administrator who invites a teen is responsible for selecting an appropriate role and supervising use as appropriate. You must provide accurate account information and may not misrepresent your age or authority to join a family.
Using the service
Caprine Compass is a recordkeeping, planning, and project-management service for dairy-goat families, exhibitors, breeders, and herd managers. You are responsible for the accuracy of information you enter, protecting your credentials and devices, maintaining appropriate family permissions, and keeping independent copies of records when required for legal, veterinary, registration, tax, show, or business purposes.
Not veterinary, medical, legal, tax, or financial advice
Caprine Compass is software and its operator is not acting as a veterinarian or other licensed professional through the service. Medication doses, treatments, withdrawal periods, breeding decisions, emergency care, tax treatment, legal compliance, and other regulated or professional decisions remain your responsibility.
Family accounts and permissions
A family Owner controls the family account and may invite other users. Administrators and other roles receive the permissions shown in the app. Removing a person from a family ends future access but does not automatically delete shared family herd history. The current Owner may transfer ownership to another eligible active family member.
Your content
You retain ownership of records, photos, documents, notes, and other content you submit. You grant the operator a limited license to host, store, process, reproduce, display, transmit, and technically transform that content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, back up, export, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
You are responsible for having all rights, licenses, consents, or permissions needed to upload or share content, including photos, documents, registration materials, copyrighted works, trademarks, personal information, and information about other family members or youth participants.

Except for user-submitted content, third-party materials used under their own licenses, and material that is not eligible for copyright protection, original human-authored Caprine Compass software code, interface design, written content, educational content, selection and arrangement, and other original expressive contributions are owned by the copyright holder identified above to the extent protected by law.
An application for U.S. copyright registration has been filed for certain Caprine Compass material. Filing an application does not mean that a registration has been issued.
Caprine Compass™, the logo, and related branding are used as source-identifying branding. A federal trademark application has been submitted and is pending. A pending application is not a federal registration, and the federal registration symbol (®) will not be used unless and until an applicable registration is issued.
These Terms do not grant permission to copy, reproduce, publish, distribute, modify, create confusingly similar branding from, or commercially exploit Caprine Compass original material except as expressly allowed by law or written permission from the applicable rights holder.
Third-party names, trademarks, and organizations
Caprine Compass may refer to third-party registries, youth programs, show organizations, companies, products, services, or rules when reasonably necessary to identify them, explain interoperability, or direct users to current official requirements. Unless expressly stated otherwise, those references do not mean Caprine Compass is sponsored by, endorsed by, affiliated with, certified by, or an official product of that third party.

Educational content and official rules
Breed characteristics, showmanship guidance, anatomy activities, quiz questions, and similar learning material are independently written educational summaries. For registration, eligibility, recordation, uniform, or show decisions, use the current official materials issued by the responsible organization.
Third-party and open source software
Caprine Compass incorporates third-party and open source software. Those components remain owned by their respective copyright holders and are governed by their own license terms. Current notices are available on the Copyright & Open Source Notices page.
Subscriptions, renewals, cancellation, and refunds
The Free plan supports up to five active goats. Paid subscriptions are sold by Vaught Family Farm, LLC for access to Caprine Compass. The purchase and billing-management methods available to you may depend on the version or distribution channel you are using.
On the regular Caprine Compass website, payment processing is provided through Stripe when live billing is enabled. Monthly and annual website subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. The family Owner can manage a website-purchased subscription through the Stripe customer portal available from the regular website's Settings → Plans & Billing area.
Some app-store-distributed versions of Caprine Compass may be consumption-only and may not offer subscription purchase, upgrade, external checkout, payment-method changes, or billing-portal access inside that distributed version. Existing eligible account entitlements can still be recognized when you sign in. If a future distribution channel offers its own authorized purchase method, additional store terms, billing rules, cancellation methods, or refund rules may apply to purchases made through that channel.
Unless otherwise stated in the applicable cancellation flow, cancellation of a website subscription takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period and stops later renewals. Refund eligibility for website purchases, including the 7-day refund-request period for qualifying initial or renewal charges, is described in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
Acceptable use
You may not use Caprine Compass to violate law; access another family's information without authorization; interfere with or reverse engineer the service; bypass security controls; upload malware or unlawful content; misuse invitations, notifications, or payment systems; impersonate another person; or infringe another person's intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
We may remove or restrict access to content that we reasonably believe infringes third-party rights and may suspend or terminate accounts of repeat infringers when appropriate.
DMCA copyright notices and other IP complaints
Vaught Family Farm, LLC has registered Donald Brent Vaught as its designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office for DMCA notices relating to Caprine Compass. The current designation is identified as DMCA-1080231.
A copyright infringement notice should identify the copyrighted work; identify and locate the material claimed to be infringing; provide the complaining party's contact information; include a good-faith statement that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or law; include a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and the complaining party is the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner; and include a physical or electronic signature.
Send formal DMCA notices to the designated agent using the contact information maintained in the U.S. Copyright Office DMCA Designated Agent Directory. For assistance locating material within Caprine Compass, or for trademark and other intellectual-property concerns, contact support@caprinecompass.com.
Offline features and synchronization
Some field records can be stored temporarily on a device and synchronized later. You are responsible for confirming that important offline records eventually synchronize. Signing out clears Caprine Compass offline herd snapshots and queued offline records stored by the app on that device, so verify important offline entries have synchronized before signing out.
Availability and changes to the service
Features may change or be temporarily unavailable. We may add, modify, limit, suspend, or discontinue features when reasonably necessary for security, maintenance, legal compliance, product development, or business reasons.
Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect users or the service, respond to fraud, infringement, or abuse, enforce these Terms, comply with law, or address an ineligible account.
Family and account deletion
A family Owner can permanently delete an owned family through the Account & Data workflow after required confirmations. Family deletion may be blocked while an active paid subscription exists so billing is not orphaned. Eligible signed-in users can permanently delete their personal login through account management, subject to ownership requirements shown in the app.
If you cannot sign in or no longer have the app installed, you can use the public Account Deletion page to request deletion.
Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal information or use family/herd information for third-party targeted advertising.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Caprine Compass is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every purpose. You remain responsible for livestock care, emergency decisions, official registrations, show entries, legal compliance, taxes, record retention, device security, and decisions made from information stored or summarized in the app.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, loss of livestock value, lost records, or business interruption arising from use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the product, pricing, service providers, distribution channels, or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be revised when updated Terms are published.
